Girl so let me tell you …
I got this Kat Von D Studded Kiss Créme Lipstick in Cathedral (for free) from Influenster the other night, and it’s bomb AF! First of all, it smells freaking amazing! Like marshmallows or some sort of candy, I kid you not … and it feels great on my lips!
Now, I’ve heard of the Kat Von D brand before, but I’ve never actually tried her stuff out. (I was a tad bit excited to read on her website that she’s a perfectionist, much like myself. Lol) So if you’re not familiar with the Kat Von D brand, you’re welcome! It’s a bit more high-end than drugstore lipstick brands, which explains why it smells like you can freaking eat it. Lol However, the brand is also a punk rock-ish, bold, out there, #tattoolife, kind of brand!
If that sort of thing isn’t for you, because you’re the quiet, shy type, or you’re more into hip-hop, that’s totally freaking fine because guess what? It’s just makeup damn it! LOL I’m only telling you what kind of brand it is because the punk rock life reminds me of bold, bright colors and the “I don’t give a damn” attitude. (Which trust me, if you’re a mom, you’ve had at least a dozen of those moments already since the beginning of the year. LOL)
But enough of my jibber jabber … let’s move on to my review, shall we?
Let’s start from the top aka the first thing you see when you purchase lipstick …
This is what the box looks like. (Sorry I couldn’t get a clearer photo, I’m still learning how to use my camera okay? Lol But you can see it hell! If you need to see it clearer you can visit their website at katvondbeauty.com. See … simple, problem fixed. LOL)
FYI – I love that the box sort of looks like the studs from a bracelet, or a biker jacket.
And this is what the packaging of the lipstick actually looks like …
How cute is this? It’s the same “studded” look like on the box. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a sucker for cute packaging as much as I am for fruity, sweet smells, so this is right up my alley.
However, one thing I’ve noticed about this is that it’s a bit hard to remember how to open it. (That, or I’m just slow AF. Lol) But seriously, I keep forgetting to pull. I don’t know why I keep thinking this thang is twisty. Oh and don’t forget to push it all the way closed until you hear the snap! (I made that mistake and it fell open. That ain’t something you want to happen while it’s in your bag. Lol But I could be forgetting to close it because I have a lipstick where the case is magnetic, so it automatically closes. Lol)
Anywho, moving on …
So if you didn’t read my intro above (it’s okay, I skim when I read too, lol) I got this lipstick in Cathedral which according to their website is a satin matte coco rose color. For me, it’s a nude and everyday color. (Which of course I love, but since this is a color I’d walk into a store and buy, and a color I always end up with, this year I was hoping to switch things up a bit and go a bit bolder. I have my eyes set on Plan 9, Poe or A-Go-Go, which you’ll see below when I show you the other colors.)
Speaking of other colors, this lipstick has 40 different shades and 3 different finishes. There’s the satin matte, like the one I have, and then there’s the glimmer and metallic finishes. I’m dying to try a glimmer and metallic because that’s totally out of my norm and like I said, this year I’m tryna live my best life. Lol
First things first, even though this Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick is a satin matte, and it’s really soft, please remember it’s still a matte lipstick. Which means yes … it transfers. Although it’s not as bad as my ColourPop lipsticks, the amount that rubs off on your food/straw is similar to how much a normal lipstick would rub off. So it’s not too bad.
The plus side is, because it’s a little easy to come off, it’s easy to come off. LOL I wiped it off my lips with my bare wet hands! It took about 3 wipes and that was it. Soap and water washed it off my arm after I swatched it, and I didn’t need to scrub my entire arm off or scrap and scratch it off like some of the other lipsticks I’ve had.
Beauty tip: When wearing a matte lipstick, if it feels a little dry, just add a bit of chapstick over it.
I did eat with it on so I could test out how long it would last, and when I was done eating I still had some color on. Pow! Although my lips did feel a little dry after, like I needed to reapply a bit, but it wasn’t too bad. I was on my way home so I didn’t bother putting on more lipstick. However, I have learned that if I’m wearing a matte lipstick and it feels a little dry, I can just add a bit of chapstick over it and I’m fine. Lol
FYI – My lips are always dry, so how long it really lasts for you could be different. However, I’m always putting chapstick on throughout the day. Always! Lol
When I got home, it started getting a bit (just a tad bit) grainy, so I would have had to wipe it off completely to reapply. But once again, because of my dry ass lips, that’s how every lipstick is for me. Lol
So I can’t rub my lips together like I’m so used to doing because it’ll dry out and it just won’t let me smoothly rub them together. Lol But it is really soft and it goes on really smooth.
It’s great for everyday use since I’m not a fan of wearing makeup all the time especially if I was just going out on errands or to work, so it’s a great color for “relaxed” mode. If you’re looking for something a bit bolder, you’ll have to try another color. But there are 40 to choose from so hey!
Oh and I’d say you might need to reapply mid-day if you left with it on in the morning for work, especially if you ate and drank something for breakfast. If you’re going out after work, you’ll definitely want to reapply for that creamy, smooth feel again. If not, you’re totally fine after that.
Now, would I pay $19 for this? Actually, I might … as a splurge, because: (1) I love lipstick and (2) I’m a sucker for things that smell good. I don’t remember drugstore lipsticks smelling this good or feeling this good, so I might actually need to follow-up and test them against one another. But if the price isn’t an issue for you then yes, get it!
FYI, just in case you care about this kind of stuff, this lipstick is also vegan and cruelty-free.
Here’s what it looks like on me …
